I came across this news article today. When I get to visit Lithunia I am not certain I will be taking this tour. Hopefully it will be good for the economy!!

VILNIUS (Reuters) – If you want to meet Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter, a Lithuanian tour firm can help.

In “Hannibal Rising” the novel by Thomas Harris now made into a movie, the childhood and youth of the fictional man-eating serial killer are set in the Baltic state, and the firm is offering a themed visit to the Lithuanian capital.

“We hope to attract tourists who would be interested in visiting Lecter’s native land,” Aurimas Jukna, director of tourism agency Saules kelias, said Thursday.

The tour includes a trip around Vilnius, a visit to a nearby estate for a “Hannibal feast” and a meeting with “Lecter.” The cost is 100 euros ($131).

In “Hannibal Rising,” a prequel to “Silence of the Lambs,” Lecter is born into a noble Lithuanian family. He sees his sister killed and eaten by militiamen during World War Two, a trauma which later turns him to murder and cannibalism.

Lecter first appeared in Harris’ 1981 book “Red Dragon” and then in 1988 in “Silence of the Lambs,” made into a 1991 Oscar-winning movie with Anthony Hopkins as Lecter.
