Let’s go fishin’

We spent the Memorial Day weekend fishing up a storm (literally) in Port O’Connor. We arrived mid-afternoon Friday with our family friend Nathan (we all drove down in his car) and checked into the lodge (10th Street Lodge – dad’s college buddy and his wife own it and it’s becoming a second home for this summer already!) Later that evening “Uncle” Jeff arrived to join the crew. We had rented the “bunk room” at the lodge which is a room with three bunk beds in it. The boys were so excited, once again proving the point of how outnumbered I am, I shared a room with five boys (guys). The only weird thing was Nathan talks in his sleep! Nothing intelligible though. After some fishing off the pier, hanging out on Grandpa’s boat, and some hotdogs and burgers we headed to the lodge to get some sleep.

Saturday all the guys went fishing and Grandma and I took the boys down to the Front Beach for the kid’s fishing tournament. One of the people in charge of the tournament was my old softball coach. He first coached me in summer league in like 1992 then again in high school and he amazingly recognized me right away. He was a bit confused as to why I was there (Him- “Yeah this is a kids tournament” Me- “Yeah, I know I have a 3.5 and 4.5 year old” Him- “Oh my gosh, your kidding”), we had a few bites, one failed to land it and not much more. We tried for a little more than an hour and then headed back to the camper. Casey and the guys had a little more luck than we did. Uncle John, Aunt Sam and Riley showed up at lunch time and after that we headed to the beach to play and relax!

Sunday was my day to go fishing and John and Sam went along also. We did some wade fishing (note to self – get some wade fishing boots, river shoes allow the grass to creepily drag all over my legs) I only caught a “toddler” trout but had a good time. Headed back around 11am and then rounded everyone up to head to the beach. We also decided at that time to stay another day (we hadn’t planned to originally). We beat the storm out to the beach (endured some rain – see the photo album, built a odd sandcastle yet carefully crafted, played in the surf again (did I mention Zach is fearless at the beach – scares us but has a blast) and had a great time. Back at the camper we ordered Pizza and then headed to the lodge for some dominoes.

Photo Album up form this weekend!

Casey John has gotten over the hermit crabs getting him, we got him some water shoes and explained he’s much bigger than them (thanks Grandma) and the boys just love it down at the beach! We had a great time and are adjusting to a new schedule with the boys at the shop. I’ll let you know how that’s going later this week!!
