Last weekend we spent down in POC (notice a reoccurring theme here?) for the 4th of July holiday. Grandpa decided Casey was a good firework display guy and bought some big mortars to shoot off Friday night after dinner. At home I usually sit back and take pictures and chat with our guests while Casey manages all the guys around the fireworks “area”, this time he enlisted my help. Can you say “burn, baby, burn”? Burned my neck, my arm, ran and slipped in the mud, and spazed out basically. Nothing serious of course, but I think I’ll retire and leave that fun to the boys. It was a good show though, everyone in the camper area wanted to do more for next year.
We stayed at 10th Street Lodge, which is becoming our second home down there. Uncle John, Aunt Sam, and Riley Pa-toot-a-root stayed at the camper. We went fishing a bit Saturday morning and then spent a good part of the afternoon at Sunday Beach. Here is where I learned just because something looks good in a fancy bottle doesn’t mean it’s better than the old fashion stuff. The new type of spray on sunscreen doesn’t work all that well, and if your four year old spends most of his time floating on his back the underside of his nose will get sunburn too. Everyone had a great time though. Saturday night Casey John told his Grandpa and I that he wanted “to go fishin”. We grabbed his pole and sat on the back of the boat/pier, baited his hook with some “shimps (shrimp)” and cast him out. He caught on his own (with a little mommy help) a little redfish, a nice piggy perch, and a nice mangrove snapper (which we kept and brought home). The boys stayed at the camper that night so we could wake up early and go try serious fishing. That didn’t work out to well, lots of fresh water from the rain, so we headed back and went for a nice breakfast then eventually loaded up and headed home.
Tuesday night we cooked up the fish and saved Casey J’s snapper just for him. He loved it and told us “my snapper is very yummy” and he had a big grin to match. I think he’s going to be Grandpa’s best fishing buddy in no time! Lastly, I had to share this series of photos trying to get Riley to take a picture with Zach, she likes to pinch and pull hair apparently, that little bully!!! 🙂
