It’s a pirate ship, or it’s a dot.

This morning we arrived at the pediatricians office for Zach’s 5 year check-up and Casey John’s 4 year check-up. For those who don’t know or have forgotten this can be a long, drawn out process. I guess I should be thankful they are being thorough in caring for my children, but two hours in a tiny room with one boy panicking about more pokeys and the other just full of words of wisdom can be draining.

They go through a process where they ask them age appropriate questions, stand on one leg, draw a circle, etc. They weigh them and measure them (Zach is 56lbs and 3’10 and Casey John is 38lbs and 3’5) and also test their eyes. Casey John recently saw the ophthalmologist and his eyes were great, he did however point out that the sailboat was a “pirate ship” and the cup was a “coffee cup”. Zachary also did the eye chart and with his right eye he had a bit of trouble with seeing the shape so he said they were “dots”, controlling my laughter we moved to the other eye which was better (she said 20/30 and 20/40). I don’t know if he was just being silly or it was blurry so she said we may want to see an optometrist just to double check his right eye. I’ll work on that this week.

The nurse held up four fingers to let us know Casey J had to have 4 shots and 1 for Zachary. Poor Casey John, just one time he’d love not to have to get pokeys. He spent the rest of the time in the corner hiding behind Casey. Zach put up a small fight and cried but it was over so fast all he could say was “that was really hurtful.” Casey John ended up having sore legs and not feeling to well from his shots (thank goodness for Tylenol and applesauce).

Their birthday’s came and went before we knew it, next thing we’ll know it’ll be Christmas time already. Only 363 days until the next ones!
