Friday Festivities

Friday morning after some breakfast we headed towards Todd Mission, TX to the Renaissance Festival. Grandma and Grandpa kept Chelsea for us so she wouldn’t keep zapping herself at home while unattended. We arrived there right around noon and changed into costumes out in the parking lot (not too hard unless you dress two boys first and give them wooden swords to whack things with). Since it was too cold for the boys to wear their adorable kilts (which by next year they will have outgrown!) I modified some gray sweat pants to go with their shirts and some knit hats. They wore thermals under all this to ensure they stayed nice and toasty. Uncle Jeff also met us there and we all went together.

Pizza on a Stick

The boys first thing was “We’re hungry!” so we found some Pizza on a Stick and lemonade to give them more energy. They both wanted to ride the spinning swing, but half way through the ride Casey John changed his mind and the guys stopped the spinning and took him off (they even gave us back our $2), he was happy to be on non-spinning ground! Zach however loves that ride and rode it again later. Casey held us a front row seat at the Birds of Prey show and I took the boys to do the fishing and frog flipping games. Then I let them play in the dirt searching for “crystals” to fill up their pouches with. The boys enjoyed the show with the falcons, vultures, and owls (including the fastest diving bird, a Peregrine Falcon which has been clocked diving at 173mph!!)

Bird of Prey

Whooooo

We then made our way to purchase two Skychairs and by this time everyone was becoming colder so we headed to put on warmer, more comfortable clothes. The boys rode a spinning tea cup ride and the wooden carousel before we found some seats for the fireworks show. Zach loved it and was grooving along with the drums and bagpipes but Casey John is still not very fond of (unexpected) loud noises so we left ahead of the mob to the jeep. We stayed at a hotel in Tomball that night and on Saturday we had to decide either to go back to the faire or to so something else….
