T – 2 days

In just two short days we will be setting out on a trek to the east. All the way to the east coast, specifically Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Odd choice you might say but here’s how it worked out. Back in December we hatched an idea to plan a vacation this summer around a space shuttle launch. So we saved and about three months ago I found a great little condo right on the beach and I mean right on it in Cocoa Beach, FL which is in view of Cape Canaveral where they launch the shuttle. We had planned to do Kennedy Space Center and I was on the list to get tickets to the launch viewing area (the closet any non-NASA person can be to launch). Then NASA has some budget cuts and then they canceled the July launch all together. Well crud. The whole reason we were going to Florida. So we adjusted.

We managed to find a very family oriented hotel there for a decent price. The room is a suite with and ocean view, meaning separate sleeping quarters for the boys which is Oh so important. It has a full kitchen that will allow us to make some of our own meals and snacks easily. The hotel has many things on site for us all to do – pools, bowling alley, arcade, etc. The boys have already backed up their back packs and tomorrow will be full of packing up clothes etc and organizing it all into the van. We are leaving EARLY Friday morning and putting a bunch of miles behind us. We’ll end up in Vicksburg, MS the first night. I hope to be able to tweet, blog, and update pictures along the way. That is if I’m not too busy having a ton of fun!
