With the anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks a mere month away I have been wondering how I will tell the boys what happened that day… I know they will eventually ask me (us) and I wonder how we will tell them what transpired that day. I vividly remember exactly where I was and what I was doing that morning. I heard the first reports on the radio and turned on the TV to see the events unfold. Walking in to my first class that morning I was the only person who knew that the second tower had just collapsed.
The tapes that were released today of the FDNY, Paramedics, and NYPD are a reminder of how brave those people are. You can hear chaos but also the Firefighters trying to help, trying to get to people to save them…. it’s amazing and haunting at the same time. I dread the day I will tell the boys how many innocent people and brave firefighters, policemen, etc died that day and then trying to explain to them why.
I see the support still today, who would have thought we see folks in Texas wearing T-Shirts that proudly display “I love NY” or support the FDNY or NYPD. It’s so fresh in so many minds it’s hard to believe it’s been five years. I pray that the world we are raising the boys in can somehow be a better place. When I grew up the term terrorist was not used a frequently as it is today. On an ending note to this out-of-the-blue post, Thanks to all those guys and girls who fight to preserve and protect our freedom.
