A Glimpse

My house has been quiet this week. Really quiet. And no I did not put duct tape over the boys mouths or tie them up or anything like that. My boys have been at grandma and grandpa’s house since Tuesday. It’s been real nice but real weird at the same time. I actually miss the buggers. A glimpse ahead to 10 years from now when they are grown and leave the house, I fear C and I will be a most boring couple. That’s just fine with us though. I am sure the boys had a great time and we’ll be continuing it when we drive down today and all head to the coast for the weekend. Grandpa is hip with the technology and kept sending me his iphone pictures like these:

My dad has these deer he feeds like pets…

Eating Melons

Thanks to my sister in law and Facebook I recieved evidence of child labor

I’m not sure who will be more tired at the end of the week, my boys or my folks. The start of a new summer tradition, maybe? Hey, I recall my folks shipping me off to my grandparents for a week during the summer…. Just saying.

A funny story

6yr old: “Mom wanna hear a funny story?
Before I could say ok….
6yr old: “One day Han Solo lost his hat. Then someone found it. But they couldn’t find a mail box to mail it to him. So then they….” Tons of giggles. Uncontrollable giggling.
Me: I quickly summarize the story and ask what’s so funny.
6yr old: Still giggling… “well then the person who found it put it in a trash can. And no one looked in the trash can for ten days (which reminded me of our forgetting the trash day) and on the eleventh day someone found it in the trash can and said hey Han Solo your hat’s in the trash can”
Me: “Oh hah. And that’s funny huh?”

Does Han Solo even have a hat? I think he meant Indiana Jones. You know being it was the same actor and all. It’s been ten minutes since he told me that story and I still hear them giggling about it. I will NEVER understand little boys.

Lumpy Boy

Monday was the boys last day of their Winter Holiday Christmas break. I had planned on just letting the boys chill out and play with whatever toy they desired. Didn’t happen. Sunday night as I hugged the Z Man before bed he “ouched” at a bump on his chin that hurt to touch. It was kind of odd and other than touching it, it didn’t hurt him or bother him in any way. I knew though that if it was there in the morning we were in for a day at the doctor. And it still was, it was in fact a bit puffier. So at 8am straight up I was calling the pediatrician’s office, closed, ugh. Called the clinic – you can bring him in as a walk-in, crud. The rules at the clinic are first come, first serve. Even if you show up at 9am you may get in to see a doctor nurse or physicians assistant by 5pm. So I skipped my shower, got myself dressed and then got the boys dressed and rushed them out the door. We arrived at 8:30am and after some issues with his insurance they called Z back, he actually went to get his vitals done by himself. The boy weighs a whopping 64lbs already. Such a big guy. No fever, no red throat, no pains. Moved to the smaller waiting room where they at least had a TV the boys could watch some cartoons on. The little Leapster that Grandma got them really saved me that morning from having to try to find ways to entertain them. The nurse practitioner walks in and looks him over and we get the “hmmmm” he has one icky ear but that’s not causing the swollen nodes but we’ll clean it out anyway. Let me tell you what came out of his little ear was GROSS!! He can hear much better now though. The nurse lady brings in the physicians assistant and he kind of shrugs his shoulders and says that he would do the same thing. So she comes back and says well I think it may be something bacterial (he had slightly metallic breath) and the lymph nodes are supposed to swell when they are fighting infection. He’s got 7 days of antibiotics with penicillin in it and if it’s not better we’ll go back. The knots are still there but they don’t hurt him and they are not as inflamed. We’ll see how it goes over the next two days. We had some small issues with his insurance again at the pharmacy but got it all fixed and I took the boys to eat then home. Zach spent some time chilling and doing this ->

Building a set

He’s on a quest to build a Lego set for a Lego movie he wants to make.  Both boys are quite serious when it comes to this work. Later that night they snuggled in front of the fire to stay warm and watched a little bit of cartoons before bed.

Glowy Christmas Lights

If I make one more promise to get caught up on this blog I may have to hurt myself. Let’s face it, I’ll never get caught up. Lately each time I sit down to write a post of finish a post I get lazy or Big C puts some movie on this –

42" LCD

and I get all distracted by the wonderfulness of this new TV set and glue my resisting eyes to it.  I’ve been trying since Christmas day to write the Christmas post and each time I sit in the TV room to write well you can guess what happens. First movie was “The Dark Knight” and oh holy cow was that great. Then it was “No Country For Old Men” not as impressed but still wow. Last night it was “The Pursuit of Happiness” and now it’s “Little Miss Sunshine”. Oh it’ll never end.

That was Santa Claus’ gift to himself this year, that and the nice little surround sound package Mrs. Claus picked up for the TV room. I’m working on the post to explain the new TV room we have. I’ve got what the room looked like from before we tore everything out to how it looks right now. Pretty darn sweet, it’s a no toys allowed room.

Down to business – Christmas time came on seriously fast and I think I almost missed it. We got fairly busy at the shop and I didn’t even get started on the Christmas shopping until the week before Christmas. The boys would have made Dick Clark proud with their daily countdown to Christmas day, first thing when the little one would pop up out of bed would be to announce how many days left until Santa Claus was comin’ to town. I did the initial reconnaissance mission to the Target for the man in the big red suit and then after asking multiple times what they wanted for Christmas and getting the exact same answer we had to do some blacks ops mission back to Target to find the two special gifts.

It was midnight before this elf headed off to bed and the two little dudes decided 6:30am was as long as they could sleep that morning and came bounding in exclaiming for us to come see what Santa had brought them. We both groaned as we rolled out of bed to document the morning for all of prosperity. Needless to say the boys were thrilled with the big man in red.

Millenium Falcon

Yeah Christmas

We had twelve total people over for a late lunch on Christmas and had a really good time. The boys spent a lot of time playing with the really awesome Millenium Flacon they got and their action figures. Z Man has even come up with an idea to make some mini movies with all their action figures. We spent the last weekend having Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa’s where we came home with a van full of toys. I got to hold squishy cheeks a lot and the Casey J even got along with Miss Riley Roo.
