Yeah for Casey J’s Hip!

We started early this morning before heading up to Austin Children’s Hospital for Casey John’s appointment with his orthopedic doctor Dr. Shapiro. As soon as we got to the parking garage elevator, he began to tell his daddy and I he was “all better” and “I feel all better now”, he was nervous. Casey went with him and he had “pictures of his bones” taken and then we waited for Dr. Shapiro.
Dr. Shaprio asked how his symptoms were and then showed us his xrays. His hip is doing great, the joint is rounding out like it’s supposed to not flattening which is really good. We still treat any symptoms with ibouprofen and if he still has symptoms in December (6 months) we’ll go back but if not we don’t have to go back at all, just call and let them know!
That’s great, it’s healing and he sees no long term damage or anything! I guess the updates will be fewer now, I’ll post on his progress but Yeah for Casey J’s Hip!!!

Appointment this Week

Just a quick note to let ya’ll know that Casey J’s check-up with Dr. Shapiro is this week. His hip has been bothering him more than not lately. I am sure we will do x-rays to take a look. Will post Thursday after his appointment.

Finally, an Update

Casey John is pretty much a normal 2 1/2 year old. He has days where he leg visibly bothers him and he will let us know. He’s still on the ibouprofen two times a day (morning and night), when we tried to ween him off in March it ended up being to uncomfortable for him. So the Ibouprofen helps swelling and discomfort. He tends to have an “old man” limp (no offense to any one out there) whether it is painful or not. Some days the limp is really noticeable but he has no pain. A recent call to his orthopedic resulted in a don’t worry that’s normal response. He goes in June for his four month check-up and x-rays.
He asks to be carried and picked up more than Zach ever did and we attribute that to his hip bothering him. He goes up and down steps carefully and isĀ  a little slower walking sometimes, but boy can he run! He can almost keep up with Zach and is catching up height wise. He is still a skinny boy though, too tall for 2T and too skinny for 3T’s!
I pray that no damage is permanent and his body grows right out of this. More updates in June.

First Follow-Up with Dr. Shapiro

Casey John is doing good. We are so thankful to have friends and family who are keeping him in their prayers. He is his normal wild and crazy self. He has been on ibouprofen 2-3 times a day since we left the hospital two weeks ago and has been doing great. At our follow up today Dr. Shapiro said to keep him on the ibouprofren until the end of the month and then if he has pain treat it with ibouprofen for a week. We took “pictures of his bones” today (x-rays) also will be a routine thing so that they can monitor the bone growth in his hip. He didn’t see any changes so I guess no news is good news in our case. We will see Dr. Shapiro every 4-5 months for the next 3-4 years for check-ups and basically just to watch how his hip is growing and forming. So I’ll update here from time to time how he’s doing and after doctor’s visits. Until then….
